High Potential Individual Visa: The Complete Guide

The High Potential Individual (HPI) visa lets recent graduates from a defined list of top global universities come to the UK to work or look for work, without needing a job offer or sponsor. It is a launchpad rather than a settlement route.

Who can apply

  • A qualification from an eligible university awarded in the last five years
  • The award must be on the Global Universities List for the year you graduated
  • English at CEFR level B1 and enough money to support yourself

What it leads to

The HPI visa cannot be extended and does not lead to settlement on its own. Many people use the time to find a sponsored job and switch to the Skilled Worker route, which does count towards settlement.
